Practice of Posture is a durational performance that disrupts the choreographies of public dining spaces, reimagining appetite and consumption as unmediated by social scripts. Repurposing the food waste of the venue, Lin explores the liberating potential within daily rituals of eating beyond the boundaries of etiquette. Drawing on José Esteban Muñoz’s concept of the gesture as an interruption of dominant cultural logics, Lin subverts the polished pace and structure of commercial spaces through spontaneous action. Sound artist Lawrence Lau utilizes contact microphones and a boom mic to create feedback and resonance that continue Lin’s glitching choreographies.

At 2 a.m., The Monstrous Feminine emerged to seek revenge, antagonizing the dining hall, while at 3 p.m., The Queer Trickster playfully disrupted the solidity of social codes– both characters liberating themselves from the oppressiveness of normality to reclaim agency through the performance space. How might the act of eating, freed from “table manners,” transform public space into a portal for shared intimacy and sensuality? In invoking the hungry ghost, Lin’s insatiable appetite becomes a force of yearning, seeking the full spectrum of possibilities beyond the banality of conditioned experience. In this exploration, messiness serves as a powerful act of resistance, coloring outside the lines of etiquette and inviting the audience into the visceral nature of pleasure and consumption.

At the performance’s conclusion, Lin stuffed their stockings and gloves with food, retired their wig, and placed beside them a deconstructed shell holding the projections and performance of the feminine.
